CLIPPER SHIP SAILING CARD
“FEARLESS”

“FEARLESS” – 1853 ~ 1885 – Extreme clipper designed by Samuel H. Pook, built by A. & G. T. Sampson at East Boston, Mass. for William F. Weld & Co. of Boston, 191’ x 36’5” x 22.’ This firm owned the largest fleet of sailing vessels in America. A distinctive “leaping black horse” burgee flew at the masthead of all Weld & Co. ships.

This clipper made eleven runs to San Francisco, her fastest was 114 days. In 1875 Weld & Co. sold the ship to George Leary for $18,000. In 1878 she was sold to a Norwegian owner for $6,500, her name being changed to “JOHANNE.” In 1885 she was sailing without class registry and her final days were not recorded.
